Parks and Recreation in Miramar

For those who are looking to enjoy being outside in the beautiful California weather, Miramar is proud to boast a variety of Parks and Recreational destinations.  One of the numerous beaches in the area, Miramar Beach, is a stunning destination fit for the whole family. Most noted for its surfing and stunning views, Miramar Beach is a great place for people of all ages to take a pleasant walk along the water or bike the trails and take in the breathtaking views.

The Half Moon Bay Golf Links (2 Miramontes Point Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019) is one of Northern California’s only luxury golf resorts and a must-see for all of the avid golfers out there. Located about 6 miles south on the hills of the Pacific Ocean, you will experience 36 holes of oceanfront golf while taking in the beautiful and serene nature that surrounds.

Totaling nearly three miles, The Half Moon Bay Coastside Trail stretches from Half Moon Bay State Park to Miramar/Surfer's Beach. It is great for walking, jogging and bike rides due to its well paved path and sweeping ocean views. Along the trail are beach entries that are easily accessible and great for kite flying, picnicking with friends/family and sunbathing. There is also a horse trail that runs parallel to the Coastside.

There are multiple outdoor events held throughout the year in the Miramar area that are great for the whole family to enjoy. With a variety of art, food and music festivals to parades and even a World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off, you are sure to find something for the whole family to enjoy! Last but not least, Miramar has plenty of playgrounds for young children and dog parks to let your furry friends enjoy the weather as well.


Schools, Health and Transportation in Miramar 


Families living in Miramar will attend schools within the Cabrillo Unified School District, which is located just south of San Francisco on the beautiful Pacific Coast. The District was established on July 1, 1965 and covers an area of approximately 135 square miles. It encompasses Half Moon Bay High SchoolPilarcitos High School/alternative educationCunha Intermediate SchoolFarallone View Elementary School, Alvin S. Hatch Elementary School, Kings Mountain Elementary School, and El Granada Elementary School. In total, Cabrillo Unified School District serves close to 4,400 students. For higher education, there are quite a few colleges and university’s just a short drive away. To name a few: College of San Mateo, Notre Dame de Namur University, Stanford University, San Francisco State UniversityFIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising San Francisco and San Francisco Art Institute are among the more well known higher education campuses.  


With an impressive list of hospitals and care facilities located in the Half Moon Bay area, Miramar residents are never too far from a nationally recognized treatment center. Among them are Mills Peninsula Health Services and Seton Medical Center Coastside, as well as numerous eye care specialists and veterinary care to keep your furry friends healthy. There is also San Mateo Medical Center which is a public hospital and clinic fully accredited by The Joint Commission. The Medical Center is an acute-care hospital with an emphasis on prevention tactics and education, and serves the healthcare needs of all residents of San Mateo County.


The transit network around Miramar provides easy commuting options for residents in the area. Highway 1 connects the coast side communities, running north/south between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, with highways 92 and 84 being used for those looking to travel east/west. There are also a few means of public transportation provided by SamTrans which include bus service, Redi-Wheels/RediCoast Paratransit service, and the Caltrain commuter rail. If air travel is on your list, San Francisco International Airport is roughly 20 miles away and is the largest airport in northern California. With major highways winding in and out of town and the ease and availability of transportation, no commute is too complex for a Miramar resident.
