Parks and Recreation in Moss Beach

In the Moss Beach area there are a variety of beaches perfect for endless days of fun in the sun. Some of the surrounding beaches include Moss Beach, Ross Cove Beach, Point Montara Lighthouse Beach, Montara State Beach and El Granada Beach. A more secluded beach in the area is Seal Cove (also called Cypress Cove) which is a great spot for exploring the local marine life when the tide pools are exposed during low tide. For all the horse lovers out there, Moss Beach Ranch is your little piece of heaven. They offer horse back riding lessons, trail rides, horse camps and monthly horse shows. It is adjacent to 4,200 acres of world-class riding trails through vast undeveloped stretches of land on the San Mateo peninsula. They welcome riders of all backgrounds and experience levels to explore the stunning ocean views and native wildlife of the area. If a playground is on your list, Moss Beach Park is every child’s dream come true. It has a mini lighthouse, a pirate boat, countless swings and twisty slides. This is a great play area for kids of all ages to explore and and let their imagination run wild.


The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve stretches 3 miles and is brimming with life from starfish and sunbathing seals to tide pool habitats, beaches, hillsides, and eucalyptus forests. It is a no-take, protected nature preserve and county park managed by San Mateo County. The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve a great experience for any family looking to explore and discover the extraordinary natural environment in the area. There is also an animal guide available on their website to aid in your exploration of the reserve. Visitors can also see the San Bruno elfin butterfly, an endangered species of butterfly, which resides around and within the reserve, and baby seals can be seen if you visit in the months March through June!


Schools, Health and Transportation in Moss Beach

Families living in the Moss Beach area will attend schools within the Cabrillo Unified School District, which is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, one continuation school and serves approximately 4,400 students. These schools are made up of Kings Mountain Elementary School, El Granada Elementary School, Alvin S. Hatch Elementary School, Farallone View Elementary School, Cunha Intermediate School, Pilacitos High School/alternative education and Half Moon Bay High School. The school district also offers adult education, Spanish immersion and programs for individuals learning English. There are also many incredible higher education colleges nearby. A few within 20 miles of Moss Beach include Skyline College, College of San Mateo, Notre Dame de Namur University, Canada College, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, San Francisco State University, California Culinary Academy and Stanford.


There are some amazing healthcare facilities located in and around Moss Beach, ensuring world-class care for you and your family. A few top hospitals assessible to Moss Beach residents include Mills-Peninsula Health Services, Sequoia Hospital, California Pacific Medical Center, Seton Medical Center and Stanford Health Care. There is also the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center about 20 miles away which is an inpatient/outpatient, diagnostic, emergency and psychiatric facility for both adults and children. It is also the only Level One trauma center in Northern San Mateo County.


When traveling in, out and around the Moss Beach area there are numerous highways and winding roads to get you to your destination.
