Living along the coastside is the perfect place to call home, but we are at risk for emergencies just like many other places across the nation.  From earthquakes, floods, and fires to severe storms -  being prepared for these emergencies is a must for any homeowner. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends that everyone be ready for an emergency by having basic supplies in your home to allow you to survive for a minimum three days if there were to be an emergency.

On average it can take 72 hours for local authorities or relief workers to be on the scene after an emergency, which is why three days of supplies is recommended.

Here are a few essentials to purchase and have on hand in case of an emergency.

  • Flashlight and extra batteries

  • A first aid kit

  • At least one gallon of water per person in your home per day for three days

  • Pliers or a wrench to turn off utilities

  • Emergency blanket

  • A whistle you can use to signal for help if needed

  • Matches stored in a waterproof container

  • Fire Extinguisher
