El Granada is home to the world-class surf break “Mavericks” which attracts thousands of surf watchers for the Annual Big Wave Surf Championship.

The community was originally planned by the Ocean Shore Railroad to be the “Jewel of the Coast” a resort style community to rival Atlantic City in its heyday. However, when the railroad failed the development was halted.  Today the community is divided into four very different areas, El Granada Highlands, Princeton-By-The-Seas “Clipper Ridge”, Princeton and Pillar Point Harbor, and the area of El Granada located East of Hwy 1.  The Princeton Harbor area is a blend of visitor-serving businesses, commercial and fishing industry businesses, warehouses, and boat yards.  It is also home to the local Yacht Club.  You can also enjoy the winery, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, and take part in a whale watching excursion all located in the Harbor.
